with 100% efficiency. Note that the mass can be composed of anything -- uranium, iron, apples, soup or
fluff. Outside of special experiments, such as those carried out using accelerators such as CERN, even the most efficient
conversion is limited to around 20%, which given the energy that could be released is probably just as well.

around 4 million tonnes (4.4 million tons) of mass into energy every second through a process of nuclear fusion.
Thankfully, it will keep doing so for quite a while yet.
